LASH AFTERCARE
Cleanse
Start cleansing your extensions with Lash Cleanser the same evening after getting your lashes done. Use a clean makeup brush to apply cleanser foam onto your lashes and gently brush over and under your lash line. Rinse with water and tap them dry with a lint free tissue or clean towel. Cleansing should be done every day, even if you don't wear makeup. It is safe to cleanse couple times a day, especially if you went swimming, worked out or wore extra makeup that day.

Care
Eyelash extensions is an investment so make sure you take care of them. Do not pluck, rub or touch them. Picking them or touching can cause premature shedding. Brush them daily as needed to keep them in place, especially in the mornings. Limit wearing eye makeup, if possible, as well as oily products as it can break the adhesive bond faster. Do not wear mascara or any waterproof eyeliners as it will get stuck in between extensions and it will not come out completely. Water based makeup is okay.
Maintain
Lash fills are recommended every 2-3 weeks, even if they're holding on well, to make sure all grown out lashes are removed before it becomes too heavy for your natural lashes to hold. Your lash artist will also be able to tell if you are cleaning them properly and advice you on doing better with your lash aftercare. If your lashes are growing out fast, please do not try to pull them out yourself as it can cause lash damage, instead schedule your fills sooner or book a mini fill.

Everyone wants to know the secret to a long-lasting retention, right? Well, you see, it’s actually quite simple. The most important thing you can do for your lashes is to simply cleanse them. Now, most people think, just because we, lash artists, recommend not getting them wet for the first 24hrs, it doesn’t mean you shouldn’t cleanse them at all. I actually recommend cleansing them the same night after getting them done, it helps to remove any lingering fumes and you’ll be less likely to get any irritation. Cleansing your lashes will help you improve your retention tremendously, but most importantly it’s a must for your lash health. Having lash extensions, your lashes are more prone to catch on your lash line and in between lashes any dirt, debris, dead skin cells, oils and any other dust lingering in the air - you may not even notice it with your naked eye without the help of magnifying glasses. No cleansing or improper cleansing of your eyelashes/extensions and eyelids can actually cause a few problems that include poor retention, eye inflammation, or infection. Your lash artist is not a physician to give you any diagnosis, but well-educated lash artist should be able to identify the problem, refuse the service, and advise you to see a doctor.
Blepharitis is a common problem amongst those who do not have good eyelid hygiene. It’s defined as ‘inflammation of the eyelid’, specifically an irritation of the lid margin where the eyelash joins the eyelid. This is a very common condition and it’s not contagious, but it’s chronic and difficult to treat. Basically, when not washed away properly, dead skin cells can build up on the eyelids and cause itchiness and inflammation. This means that eyes/eyelids will feel itchy, block the hair follicles, and end up looking a bit red and sore. You’ll end up itching your eyes and playing with your extensions (even in your sleep when you don’t even realize you’re doing it!) and they can start to come off. Some people that have blepharitis think they are having a minor allergic reaction to eyelash extensions, then when they start properly cleansing their lids and extensions they discover that they are not. With proper cleansing, the itchiness disappears very quickly! When you start a proper cleansing regimen, your eyes will feel much better and your extensions last longer.
Why is it crucial to use oil-free products?
If you have an oily complexion and/or you’ve been wearing makeup, eye cream, or moisturizer that contains some amount of oil, some of this oil will end up on your eyelash extensions. If you never wash your lashes, the oil remains there, building up, and slowly eating away at the eyelash adhesive and also clogging your hair follicles which may result in permanent hair loss. The less oily you let your eyelash extensions get, generally, the better your extensions will last and the healthier they will be.
The perfect time to cleanse is once in the morning and once at night before bed time. It’s always safe to cleanse them after being active, such as working out or spending a lot of time outside where it might be hot or windy. We want to make sure you cleanse away all the sweat, salts, and oil before it breaks the bond.
Are you ready to see STEP by STEP GUIDE to clean lashes? Let’s Go !
-
Use oil-free remover to remove any eye makeup. If taking off eyeliner, use a cotton tip dipped in remover and gently wipe it across your lid or away from the lid. Never towards the extensions as you don’t want any eyeliner residue being stuck in between lashes. Don’t use cotton balls as you’ll get into a furry mess as they will catch on the bases of the extensions.
-
If you are wearing foundation, remove this before washing your eyes, using your cleanser of choice but AVOIDING the eye area. Some cleansers contain oil, particularly cream cleansers.
-
Dispense one pump of a lash shampoo (available at my studio for purchase) and lather it up on your palm. Use a gentle lash brush and apply the shampoo to one eye at a time, gently brushing over your lid, underneath your eyes, in between lashes, and splashing water over them to make sure the product is rinsed out completely. Don’t be afraid to really get in between your lashes, don’t worry, it will not pull your lashes out. If your eyes still feel grubby, repeat
-
After rinsing them off, dab them dry with a lint free tissue or gently with a towel. It doesn’t matter if they are a little damp or stuck together with water etc., wait until they are completely dry and brush them through with clean mascara wand. DO NOT brush them when they’re wet.
